Martyr

She shed silent tears,

Her heart ached with grief.

She felt physically feeble,

She wanted to be alone.

Shutting her eyes,

Her mind raced back.

Memories came flooding in,

Of their happier days together.

They had met a year back,

He, a young charming soldier.

Had proposed on Valentine’s Day,

They were, to marry…

But now, he was gone,

The war had claimed his life.

Future seemed to her,

Like a shattered mirror.

As she looks at his coffin,

Wrapped in tricoloured cloth,

She seeks courage,

From his martyrdom,

Which she feels proud of,

Amidst sorrowful tears.
