AS
I AWAIT THE ULTIMATE…
The
day has passed and gone,
Evening is to come moving to a ‘Heaven’ly dawn.
Life has turned its pages and halted,
At the last and final chapter.
No one to care, no one to love,
Stranded and alone,
In life’s little grove.
Just one to call one’s own,
A son-now fully alien.
Letters fly home once in a while,
From far across the sea, far across the miles.
She went off to that heavenly abode,
She s waiting for me along ‘that’ road
Hoping I would come very soon to her,
Leaving behind all worldly desire.
My heart pains to see the old neighbour,
The demon has all his dears,
Walking hand-in-hand across life’s galore,
Dwelling in beauty and joy in store,
In grief, their tears together pour!
From my window, I burn with rage,
As I behold their lives changing with time and age.
“You have a bungalow, a servant, a car,
So how does it matter if I go afar?
Appa, I will still love you,
I will pay all your monthly dues.”
The son said it last fall,
But how can I tell him that these are not all!
There is love, there is care,
Without which life is dull and bare.
Death is frightening only in youth,
In ‘wise old’ age only it can sooth…
