WHERE
THERE IS A SHADOW...
There
Must Be Light
I lay
upon my bed
Unable to sleep.
I had given up all hope
In counting sheep.
In the darkness, came to light,
My innermost fears,
And I jumped at every sound
I heard,
Or imagined to hear.
And then my eyes darted
To the dreaded drapes.
Upon whom the shadows were forming
The most fearsome shapes.
And then I wondered,
Where there is a shadow,
There must be light.
But whereupon?
So late at night.
I looked out and saw
The small speck of light I had feared.
And was still afraid.
But slowly the sun began to rise,
And the light began to fade.
And when the sun reached noon,
The light disappeared.
When a man's mind is surrounded by darkness,
He fears even the tiny speck of light.
Only when there is brightness all around,
That that fear,
Like that light overwhelmed by the brightness of the sun,
Can disappear.
