THE WAR

What if he's my angel
and he just didn't see?
What if he's the one and only
guy for me?
The one to hold me,
the one to show me the way,
to take care of me forever;
to brighten all my days.
I guess I'll never know now
what the future held in store.
For the hands of fate are cruel
and sent you off to war;
but not the kind with weapons
in a land so far away.
This war was within yourself,
one of which you did not walk away.
You didn't see the danger
in the habits that you chose.
You didn't see the creature
that within you those drugs arose.
You looked at me and smiled
and said, "I'll be alright."
Convinced the odds were with you,
never to focus on what might.
I told you of the consequences
and how badly it could harm.
You looked at me and gave a shrug,
and proceeded to put that needle in your arm.
I am all alone now
standing over a body so cold.
A single tear falls down my cheek,
and one white rose for you I hold.
There is no longer a light in my life
for you are not by my side.
No one to pick me up when I fall,
but I will not crumble and hide.
For although you may have lost your war,
I now have a battle to fight;
to guide others away from your path,
to give all those blinded sight.
I will always love you
and forever you own a piece of my heart;
but now I must focus on what is right
since we are now apart.
I hope that others will learn
from the horrible choice you made.
And I make an eternal promise
to never allow your memory to fade.
