STRANGER
ON THE PHONE
For the day,
sun had almost shone
the bell rang
and I answered the phone.
it was a hello from some fair lady
she was looking for MR. somebody.
My eyes half closed, I got into the conversation
she addressed me as sir,
I had to stop her in frustration.
in this age of girlfriends
she asked me about spouse and sons.
I clarified- I am not the right person.
still she asked for more personal information.
and enquired about my interest in excursions.
with a heavy hurt, I said no.
all credit to studies- I said so.
Of my past- does she know a thing or two?
how on earth did she manage to get through?
was it nothing more than a crank call?
for the sweet soul on the other side
I decided to share all.
I don't sound like a bubbly teen
how can she say that - when unseen.
pleasure of talking to her was all mine
the loner in me began to dream
shall we ever share the same sunshine?
Short on words- talks came to a close.
as the words took shape
I decided to write for her, a poetic prose.
I would love to know about her reaction.
if ever we can become friends
it would be cause for sheer jubilation.
