RIPPLE

As a young man
He recalled
Walking through the park
On the way home
Just passing through the park
     and the lake
     and the boat
     and the girl
The girl in the boat on the lake
And then only the girl
Just the image of the girl

Years later
As an old man
After a long and happy marriage
(His wife, unfortunately, having died)
Several children
A fulfilling career
After several grandchildren
Well into a comfortable retirement
He had no regrets
He was indeed a fortunate man

And yet
He recalled
That not a day had gone by
That he didn't think about the park
      and the lake
      and the boat
But mostly about the girl

Cupid shot an arrow
In the air
And where it landed ...
