A flock of the sacred ibis flies away;
it would have made your heart so glad and gay
if you had seen but one of many in May.
Still, give me your hand in friendship today,
the constance of amity is a lifetime's boon,
we know of things that do not fly so soon,
like friends in need, under a fickle moon.
So give me your hand, if suns may sink at noon,
you know it gladdens me, myself to lend
my hand in yours in friendship, ever and then,
laughing, come what may around the bend.
Give me your hand in friendship, my friend.
