SMALL HAPPINESS

Against the ceaseless stream of traffic at rear
To the chauffer struggling to reverse the car
I stand behind and guide him
He smiles a big grateful thank you to me

To the lady with her conked mobike
Battling to push up the gradient
I give a willing helping hand
She smiles a sweet kiss of thank you to me

To the ragged  boy plying his fruit cart
Limping   with  festering wound in his leg
I give some money for succour
And he smiles a wonderous thank you sir to me

To  the little girl speeding on her bike
Whose heavy back- bag had slipped off
I give a helping hand to remount
And she smiles a tender thank you uncle to me

To the god's children rolling on the pavement
Passed over as the wretcheds by many
I buy some sweets to cheer them
They smile a credulous thank you to  me

These  little smiles I pick up on my strides
And cherish more in my life
Than any big smile from Goddess Bounty
        Which I never receive
