THE KITE

How like a kite,

A little child,

Made with tender care,

For parents

In their loving hands,

Gently and yet firmly to bear.

Just like a kite,

A little child,

Let fly when wind is right.

But kept protected

Until the wind

Is gentle and Sun shines bright.

Just like a kite,

The fragile child,

Let fly a little higher,

When with a promise

Not to tear

The wind assures the flier.

But unlike a kite,

A little child,

Will tell you when it’s ready

To let go of you,

And fly on it’s own

“See I’m strong and steady.”

So a kite-like child,

In the flier’s hand

Who know it’s every need

Yet does the wise judge

A listening ear,

To the voice of freedom concede.
