LOVE'S DUNGEON

Time was
When I slept to dream.
Now I sleep only to wake up
And  taste the salty tears
Flowing in from yesterday.

Your favourite song,
The little happiness that moved you
The little sadness that pained you.
That favourite star you always wished on
Your smiles of ecstasy
Your moments of hopelessness ----
I remember them all.

I remember you in all the small things
Of yesterday ,today and tomorrow
The key to my front door,
The first cup of tea in the morning,
The morning newspaper.
The first shower after summer,
And the first bloom after winter.
The chores yet to be done,
The roads yet to be travelled ,
In sleeping ,in waking----

I dream of what might have been
Of those words you never uttered
Of that warmth you never showed
Of that wonderful release of love leading to a
paradise
Oft dreamt of,
But never visited.

Yesterday's shackles
Bind me
Mock me.
I keep on treading on pieces of a shattered dream
lying
                                    all around me
And, oh! the blood comes gushing out
As memories come rushing in.
I know
I cannot flee.
