AN INDIAN IMMIGRANT Hot dogs and hash browns begin my day, Black coffee and cappuccino have replaced milk tea, Saying “hello, how are u”, to people I never knew. I step out to work when it’s time to sleep back home.
Warm dry summers and cold chill winters, Have made me too, to think of knickers and sweaters, Kurtas and dhotis have become, stuff of fancy dress games. My favorite kolhapuri, I use it to the restroom!
When my friend in mannargudi, calls me up, I reply to him, saying “Wasssupp” ‘Mummy’ no more, refers to my mother, It is but now, an embalmed dead body back in Egypt.
When I think of buying a house, A flat is an option no more, I buy a house with five bedrooms, But if you see, we’re just a family of three.
I’m always nice and polite, trying to put up a smile, Especially when I meet my friends who are white. I always spell out my last name, when I’m asked for a name. I am an Indian immigrant, in the new world USA. ~Deep~
