CULT FIGURE

Into the hot seat
He came riding high
Dreaming of a feat
For his country
With scheming skills
Ensnares the gentry
Carves out visions
Cooks up plans
In frenzy of illusions.

A wall impenetrable
Darkly rose unchecked
He stands unassailable
Over the adoring masses:
"Long live the Great One!"
Wealth and power he amasses
Myths of courage he brew
Webs of deception he weaves
To a divine stature he grew.

An air of mystery descends
On his inviolate person
His mortal frame ascends
To heights unimaginable
Cast in monuments
His presence invulnerable
He stares down stonily
While wretched life
Flows so murkily.

He alone holds sway
Dispensing twisted justice
All along the way
Lights of liberty
Dimmed to dull shade
Only bells toll
Of shattered hopes
Only his pantheon
Mocks his barren land.
