A RAINY DAY
I was complaining to my friend
about problems that never seem to end
I noticed that it was late
yet another day - I cursed my fate
diseases, war, accidents, pollution
perennial problems without any solution
man seemed to be happy on this earth
only between his death and birth
even as I stepped out complaining
I noticed that it was raining
I looked sarcastically at the sky
and said - now, even u have begun to cry
the sky laughed and replied - I do agree
but its for a purpose, which u fail to see
if only u open your inner eyes, my son
you will find that this place is nothing short of fun
the plants on the streets, looked greener
the usually dusty roads, appeared cleaner
though i couldn't see peacocks dancing
i could hear the frogs croaking
the parched earth quenced its thirst
thanking the sky for the outburst
the blowing wind made the trees dance
the whole of nature, seemed to be in a trance
the farmers heaved a sigh of relief
the theists managed to retain their belief
children of poor - who had no toys to play
were jumping in joy - in puddles of clay
the rich smiled - their cars were washed off dirt
the couples cuddled to each other for comfort
as the rain continued its sudden spate
lovers were happy - they had an alibi to be late
I heard the sound of thunder
it was the sky's mocking laughter
the sudden lightning made me blink
it was the sky's mischievous wink
I looked above, with due reverence
and said - now I see the difference
when man cries, life is awful..
but when nature cries, life is beautiful..
said the sky, wetting me with its tears
there's more to life than it appears
if only u could see - my boy,
your life is out there to enjoy.
