57 Years after it was
granted

"Freedom!", The litle child
hiding behind his mom said,
"would mean a million chocs a day without a word".
"It would mean the permission to play the whole day
and dump this one-ton school bag in oblivion",
a student in standard eight exclaimed.
"I guess it would mean lesser restrictions and no nos
on friends, whereabouts and choice over careers"
The lovely girls in college convulged.
The guy in the office remarked sarcastically
"Freedom for me would mean the authority
to shout back at my boss when he shouts at me
for none of my fault."
The housewife, never to be left behind, worriedly added
"Freedom would mean breaking the shackles of prices"
And for the old granpa in the family, shaking his head,
"freedom for me whould take away all the boredom in my life
after i retired and sat back home"
Phew! So many people so many responses.
I had the day out.
With diverse and intriguing replies
another one of the doubts did sprout.
Are we sure we know what freedom means
or is it just a synonym we mark
in this age of aping the west
to break the rules that discipline our life.
for a few more chocs and few more hours out in night
would mean we are free at last.
what about the anguish in office
in a challenge to authority lies our freedom.
I guess we all have wrongly identified
freedom which has been given
because of thin line between rights and duties
freedom should mean for us,
inhibitions released over castes and religions
the broken wall of embarrasment between rich and poor
selfishness to be breached and a helping hand to follow
The realisation of what we are and whats our potential....
when we shed they "why should i bother!" tag.....
and help our competition hand in hand to take the nation a long way.....
that would be the freedom.... they envisaged, we achieved and the next
generations would bequeath.
