THE DREAM

I was restless-tossing my head.
The pillow was wet- with my sweat.
A terrible darkness was swallowing me.
Try as I might, there was no escaping.

Something cold and sharp touched my cheek.
It gave me shivers and my knees felt weak.
I prayed feverishly for God to intervene.
But He slept soundly in His safe Haven.

The sharp edge was sliding down my neck.
Adrenalin ran high and I was a wreck.
I saw hopelessly as with a strong rope
My hands were tied behind my back.

There was an eerie silence- as if death waited to hear
My labored breath of torment and fear.
The glint of steel was hurting my eyes
Like a bolt from the darkening sky.
Just as the dagger was poised to strike-.
Shaking and trembling in extreme fright
I howled and howled without respite-
Until someone shook me hard and switched on the light.
With eyes tightly shut and nerves taut
I felt the touches and soaked the warmth.
Finally when I did open my eyes- still I couldn't discern
Why was I lying on bed with everyone looking so concerned?
Was I dead after all? But where was the pain?
Oh! It was just a nightmare-I was dreaming again.
