With the nightfall near..

The road to go is long,
and the nightfall near;
tarried have I
too long at the inn
engrossed in its bright revelries,
unmindful of the miles to go

O Lord, the gift you gave me,
this life on earth, I have squandered,
distraught in a hundred ways;
too absorbed to look around, look beyond,
to see, to know, the grandeur and wonder
and the mysteties of this existence,
by grace given once
so that we can glimpse the glory
of Thy magnificence

I have but held a palmful, to drink
of the mighty river full-flowing,
Is it Thy will my journey end here
abrupt, my unslaked thirst
half-quenched, vast realms still
unbeheld; and I should rest content
with the vision vouchsafed thus far,
for this life?
