It Rained
Yesterday...

Tiny drops of water,
These rains
They pour on the outside
But dampness set inside
Bringing up back the forgotten days.
Just yesterday, when it rained
I saw her; she was standing under her pink umbrella
And me in my yellow raincoat.
Digging my toe into the mud, hesitant
Should I say, would she accept.. Finally
Took step forward only to retreat
Someone for whom she waited for had arrived
And I was left to get drenched
Only to console.. She was never mine, she was elder
Few rains later,
I was still in my yellow coat
When I saw her standing under the tree
Trying to shade her from the incessant monsoon
I took a step again. again to retrace back
For a young fellow, my peers
Came along sometime and they danced away in the shower
But she was one of my peers, not elder..
May be I wasn't lucky enough. consolations too rained.
Few more rains later,
I was under the tree
And she walked up to me
Offered me to walk along her,
Under safety of her umbrella
Thought twice before took a step
Only to be reminded of a young face
Pleading not to go as he wanted to woo her
A gentle nod and she moved on
Finding the enthusiastic partner
Oh they looked so good a pair.
Consolation! I believe I was elder and older.
