Restoration is restoring itself to
An infinite archaeological melancholy
Can’t hide itself anymore in
The shade of fountain drops
Futurologies as man stays behind
In trials of pride and guilt—
Where state and religion meet in
A twofold Altar of Heaven and Earth
Over Michelangelo’s Campidoglio
Over the Roman Forum of democracy—
As history turns into the Third Millennium
Of Gregorian fantasies And again
The hair-dresses seem most interesting
