A Psalm

Confusion rages through my heart;

I feel as if I’m torn apart.

Ripped one way, and then the other,

Choosing one, and then another.

Lord, I simply can’t decide,

By which belief should I abide?

Stormy waves come crashing down.

Emotions, oceans… I can drown!

Fickle feelings, these galore!

I spread my wings, but hit the floor.

Reaching up, I sense you there,

I grasp and grope but wonder, “Where?”

Desperate, Lord, I seek advice,

Give a living sacrifice.

Then, in horror, realize

It dropped down dead before my eyes!

“Answer, Lord, don’t leave me here!

Here, amidst the dark of fear!”

Rolling thunder, crashing waves,

And then a whisper, “Jesus saves.”

Now a chill runs down my back.

“What simple faith, my Lord, I lack!”

Seek ye FIRST His righteousness

THEN the rest you will posess.

A basic truth I near forgot.

How dumb and recklessly I fought!

So now, when Satan rants and raves,

I’ll just remember, “Jesus saves.”
