RAMAYAN

Part - 8

Parasuram, The Sworn Enemy of Kings

Viswamitra left for Himalaya,

Soon after the wedding of Rama.

His further role went into oblivion.

In the historical story of Ramayan.

With all his retinue Dasaratha,

Returned thereafter to Ayodhya,

On the way, bad omens he faced,

Of the impending dangers ahead.

A great storm broke out.

An earthquake followed it,

Hiding the Sun in a black out,

The sky covered full of dust.

Terror-struck was everyone,

Soon they knew the reason,

For this strange phenomenon,

Parasuram’s arrival on the scene.

His face was always in a rage,

As his father, Jamadagni, a sage,

Was killed by a brainless king,

In a manner quite disgusting.

To destroy king’s race, he took a vow,

And carried always an axe and a bow,

King after king, many he beheaded,

In fear, the living kings trembled.

He challenged Rama to string his bow,

In strength equal to the Vishnu’s bow,

What he broke in the Court of Janaka,

That settled his marriage with Sita

Rama stringed it with all ease,

And drained out his powers,

Accumulated in years’ lot,

With a single arrow shot,

That part of Parasuram’s role,

Came to an end with his fall,

And he departed, unheard of,

The rest of his spiritual life.

Rama and Sita lived happily,

Twelve years passed merrily.

Their time moving joyfully,

The citizens lived peacefully.

His pure and noble heart,

His excellence in every art,

His graceful body frame,

His deep rooted wisdom,

His courage and statesmanship,

His compassion and friendship,

His sweet and soft speech,

His serenity in approach,

His dealings most pragmatic,

His personality total magnetic,

His citizens well appreciated,

His coronation they all awaited.

Dasaratha had his own plan

For the grand coronation

Of the prince, Rama, the eldest,

As Yuvaraj, at the earliest.
