Part – 40
Hanuman Finds Sita
It was almost semi-dark,
On a tree top in Asoka Park,
Among leaves sat Hanuman,
Hidden, unseen by any one.
It was as if everything set,
Sita down below the tree sat,
He was happy to see her,
And closely watched her.
Thin and pale, she appeared,
Her beauty glow disappeared,
Perhaps due to Ravan’s torture,
Leading to her dejection and fear.
The ugly faced demons,
With spears and weapons,
Were looking half asleep,
Having lost their night sleep
It was still pre-dawn dark,
Ravan approached the park,
With his usual daily retinue,
For his coercion to continue.
Ravan in praise for her,
Spoke nicely to her.
She sat with grief and fear,
No support coming near.
Hiding behind bushy leaves,
Hanuman kept his eyes,
To find the actual truth,
What went underneath?
“Oh Sita, don’t fear for me.
Why you try to avoid me?
I shall never touch you,
Until you say “I love you.”
“The jewels and clothes here,
You must for my sake wear,
On the ground, don’t sleep,
Think not of the past and weep.”
“Your youth and beauty,
Keeps me very happy,
Whatever be your desire,
To fulfill it I’m here.”
“Say, what’s less in me,
And more in Ram, you see?
He’s a wanderer in the wood.
May be, by now, he is dead.”
“The first queen you shall be,
Here happier you’ll be.
Enjoy unlimited power,
And have heavenly pleasure.”
In so many words he tried,
To influence her, but failed,
As she was single minded,
With his Ram she was tied.
“Either you live as my wife,
Or be ready to lose your life,”
This warning he gave her,
For the present, he left her.
“Somehow bring her round,”
To the female guards around,
He issued this order and
For her love he yearned.
The Guards one by one,
Spoke high of Ravan,
To change Sita’s mind,
They posed to be kind.
