THE SAME MISTAKE

I’ve seen you stand by silently

Watching my tears flow

And on many occasion

Seen you siding with my foe

You encouraged him

Even taught him games to play

Yet you seem aghast

That he has changed the rules today

The very toy you gave him

Has now become deadly barb

Since they now point at you

Him now you try to starve

But have you seen a hungry dog

Prowling in a cage?

His fangs bare for all to see

Aren’t you responsible for his rage?

I see you reaching for your staff

To bring it down on its head

But will it calm the hungry beast

Who thinks he’s already dead?

I see you now teaching others

To play your deadly games

For you don’t want your children

On marble to become engraved names

Yet the children you try to save

Will some day pay the price

For your lack of vision

And your arrogance and vice.
