GHOSTS

What are these ghosts I see in the night and day?

 Are they ancestors

Here to share the secrets of the past

With me and the God within me?

Are they my grandparents

Here to bless me and my little one

Come to give me advice

On all they know and have learnt

Come to ready me and my little one

For this planet?

Are they malevolent spirits

Come to torment me and my little one

Here to shake our delicate balance

Of common body and soul?

Are they my past deeds

Catching up on me like a tornado

Ruining my night’s sleep

Upsetting my little one

Paying me back for what I’ve done?

Is it you, God

Here to test me and my little one

Come to check on the sturdiness

Of our faith, on the cleanliness

Of our souls

Teaching me a lesson

In goodness and strength?

Or is it just me, my little one

Dreaming that I’m dreaming

Worried for you and myself

Seeing visions in the night

Because of my fears and anxieties?

Whoever it is, whatever it is

Forgive me, my little one

For the nervous nights and jumpy days

For the knots inside me

That must be so frightening for you

Forgive me, sweets

I will grow up soon

Promise, I will grow up

Before you are born.
