A PLEA

Have you ever had to walk away
From something very dear to you?
We have been forced to flee for our lives
From our homes, our hopes and happiness too

You may not feel our pain from afar
But we plead that you do not laugh at us
Pictures with funny captions, in the mail
And jokes at our cost, on your s.m.s.

You wouldn't want to share our plight
In an unfamiliar land, uncertain future ahead
Languishing in squalid refugee camps
Wishing we were home, like you, instead

We had no hand in what transpired
Did nothing to deserve this damnation
Condemned to a life far worse than death
Viewed by all with hatred and suspicion

We pay the price for the act of some cowards
Yes, they were brothers, till they turned insane
Running amok, spreading grief and terror
In the name of God, helping Satan to reign

This darkness won't last forever, we know
As sure as this dusk is the dawn that will break
Inshallah, we shall get justice in this lifetime
Peace will return to our land and so will we, one day.
