TO 'GURU SHIKHAR'

A flower of saffron wholeness
blossomed in my heart
and that to offer at your Yajna
I come with a head held low with ripeness.

Perched atop the stout Rock
of Ma Arbuda's bare shoulder
Oh! Guru Shikhar
You sit astride the Wind like a deft Rider.

For ages have you stood there
For ages has the Agni in the Yajna
Brought you gifts of Men
Of Pure Intelligence.

I come today
A supplicant Agastya,
From the feet of Ma Bharati's
Sprawling sacred frame,
seeking to transcend the domain of Indra
With your Divine Grace.

Pray, unroll the rock
That sits adamantine
Across the Cave of my Self,
And release the teeming herds
Of Surya Savitri
And 'undam' your Saptasindhu
That every bird, beast and plant
And even this long inert Earth
May sing psalms of Joy and Truth.
