This Happens Only In India!

Learnt to drive a car some years ago

To steer and brake and change the gears

To reverse, to park and accelerate

Took me a while to overcome my fears

Gingerly took to the roads on my own, one day

Using the by-lanes, I thought I would be fine

Then I discovered crater like potholes

And cows squatting in the middle, all in a line

Deciding that main roads were safer perhaps (ha!)

(They were wider atleast and I could see some tar)

As I turned to the left, staying close to the curb

Parked right on the curve were a scooter and car

Veered away, phew! And stepped on the gas

Smiling at visions of me racing on a track

Just then I heard a shrill whistle go off

I’d broken a signal, had my first panic attack!!

The cop sneered. Started to jot down my number

I tried to look helpless and started to plead

While passing him a crisp note discreetly

He accepted and smiled and let me leave

Turned around to drive right back home

Telling myself this adventure was over

Knowing suddenly what I had to do

Called classifieds and advertised for a chauffer!!
