POP GOES THE DIVA!
Nursery rhymes, church choirs, Christmas Carols, Cheerleader groups and teenie pop bands You sang like an angel and danced like a dream Looked like a vision and sizzled like steam. Then came the offer from the agency How would you like to be a star? Take center stage, cut an album Rock the world strumming your guitar?? First cut goes gold, the second platinum The world's at your feet, you're soaring new heights Different costumes each day, a different man every night Strobe lights and flashbulbs blinding your sight It takes its toll, your panic is showing You're looking for love, frustration is growing You start to find solace in your best friend's ex-flame The one from Miami with an Italian name You're married in white one Saturday in June You're off to the Bahamas for your honeymoon Back home from heaven there's hell to pay He's showing you off when he's not bashing in your face You take your first puff in desperation Drowning reality in hallucination That woman's back in his arms again They were never apart! Ha! Fooled you, my friend! On stage you're still sparkle and dynamite You've blown up your life and lost the fight You're reading the papers, he's cleaned you out You feel like a fool and sink in self doubt You grope for the syringe, stab it in your vein Having downed your last bottle of French champagne You turn down the light humming your last song And fall asleep, never to awaken again What price glory? What price fame? You're just another body, with another famous name!
