METAMORPHOSIS

Remember the days when time used to fly?

Nothing else mattered when you were together

Laughing at jokes not even remotely funny

Just deliriously happy in having found each other

Phone calls every single day from “a friend”

Sneaking out from home for dates on weekends

You didn’t really think you were cheating your folks

Too young to care whom you would hurt or offend

It was bliss, it felt like the first flush of love

Brimming with feelings you never knew existed

A heady potion brewed by body and heart

Passion entered from where good sense exited

You never realized when you crossed the line

Carried away by your emotions, now in spate

Caught in the web you had woven for yourself

Unprepared for the cruel twist of fate

He was young, uneasy with making a commitment

Wanted to savor all that his life had to offer

No vows, no wedding bands playing in his head

No plans of living happily with you ever after

Your dreams came crashing, you cried your eyes out

Not accepting that your ego hurt more than your heart

Locking yourself up in your room all day

Desolate, that your world had just fallen apart

A few days later you emerged from your gloom

Knowing that this madness had to end

Wary and quiet but with  newfound confidence

That comes with a heart which is on the mend

Knowing you might stumble again but you won't fall

You suddenly felt like you were many years older

The girl was gone, a young woman took over

Her heart in place and her head on her shoulders
