I Know That I'm Not One Who Knows The Night
(A TERSA RIMA SONNET)

I know that I'm not one who knows the night
And yet it is the darkness that knows I
Proclaim the truth as neither wrong nor right.

And as down what darkened lane each goes by
The watchman on his beat is well aware
That in the houses are those who imply

It is in darkness that the truth will fare
For in darkness no shadows can be cast
And thus the darkness has truth for its heir.

Then all of those who in the night are passed
Becomes the liar who stands before the light
That hides the truth from what is truth at last.

So I pace myself for within the light
I know that I'm not one who knows the night.
