HUBBY'S LAMENT
I’m
no longer what you thought I’d be
The
first time that we met beside the sea
Your
eyes shone in love-blind glee
You
wanted to spend your life with me
Now
you’ve seen my rotten core
So
you no longer have love in store
When
I talk you think I’m a bore
Get
irritated when I ask for more
But
tell me have you remained unchanged?
Am
I to blame for us being estranged?
To
give you a life that was so arranged
Yet
now you feel I’m the one deranged!
Where’s
the girl who clung to me?
Called
every uttered word poetry
Claimed
that she could love me only
Now
her infidelity for all to see
I’ve
grown a paunch and lost my hair
But
my love for you is still there
It
still hangs in the silent air
Even
though with me you no longer share
It’s
still there in the work I do
In
the fact that I’ve always been true
Your
lovers come and go and use you
And
who is there when you are blue?
Please
forget your imagined pain
Which
on this love puts a strain
Let’s
together look at life’s gain
Let
us try to be one again?
