A
DEBT REPAID

The
sunken eyes, withered and shriveled skin
There she lay a woman of substance
Akin to just some substance
Waiting to leave for the ethereal world
Heaven or hell she wasn't sure
Eager faces all aound her..waiting for the moment
And wondering, what was still holding her back?
Zest for life..nay..the fixed eyes at the doorway,
a vacant stare
Her beloved son, who cared for her through all her troubled times
Was by her side. praying for mother's soul to depart in peace
Reminiscing ,capturing every thought about the wonderful woman
Bending down closely to her lips..just in case she had something to say
"has he come"?
pained the son turned away.cannot fathom
why does she still want him..her first born.. who abandoned her
never was there for her.. selfish and busy with his own?
Mother signaled him and spoke with an effort
"you are my son befitting to be called a son..
I don't want him to even light my pyre
But..
years ago..the society shunned me calling me a barren woman
your father decided to take another woman
Then as a god sent miracle he was born.
.my first born
Absolved me from the social stigma ,saved my marriage
Gave me a new lease of life from depression and self annihilation
Forever making me indebted to him
I owe him an adieu and thank you for that .
