FRIENDSHIP
DAY
(A Poem dedicated to poets and poetry)
Today they say is Friendship Day
When I was a kid it wasn't this way
While the kids exchange cards gifts & flowers
Decorate each others hands with friendship bands
They make merry yet seem to stand on firmer sands
For me its as though time has come to a stand
What am I looking for in my friends?
What have we exchanged in our lives?
What really have these friendships meant?
What flavour to my life have they lent?
How have we enriched lives of each other?
A question unanswered it seems forever
Do my so called friends stand the test of time?
All these years have they really been mine?
Would I really do everything for a Friend?
Or is it something superficial - a kind of trend?
I haven't sent you flowers and cards nor
an email a letter or made a telephone call.......
Haven't invited you to a movie or shared a meal
Yet I've known for sure that you are my best friend
Yes, my beloved "Poetry" you are forever mine
I know you shall always stand the test of time
For you live so deep within my heart
Wherever I am we are never far apart
You halve my sorrows, you wipe my tears
always there to embrace me so warm and near
You hold my hand and walk the sunset with me
Banish the emptiness in my heart and talk to me
I find life's meanings hidden somewhere in your lines
and seek refuge in you in painful trying times
This is what I suppose true friendship is means
A venue where hearts, minds and souls form a team
Your thoughts and words, soothe ruptured wounds
That the world sometimes bestows at will
Life would be so much poorer if it weren't for you
Its so meaningful when surrounded by you
Yes my dear Poem, you live forever in my heart
You shall be with me when my breath departs
Today they say is Friendship Day
When I was a kid, it wasn't this way.
