DEVOTION

I know you understand me
You've shown me what love can be
By standing steadfast beside me
Let me wander, let me roam free

Yet you were there to cushion my fall
When life brought me to my knees
Like a rock you sheltered me
 From the cold ice-laden breeze

What have I given you, friend
Except my pain and my pleas
The only time that I came to you
Otherwise soared above the trees

I'll call it love for lack of a name
For that's what you gave to me
Pity your devotion I can't return
Nor this love that all could see.
