You Don't Deserve Me

You don’t deserve me

Or the garlands that I make

With words that come from within

And leave about for you to take.

You don’t deserve my songs

That with seven hues I weave

Nor all my lines of wisdom

That you find hard to believe.

You don’t deserve the pictures I paint

With the blood of a broken heart

Nor the stories that I write

That pricks the soul like dart.

You don’t deserve my prophecies

Of the future and what ahead lies

For your conscience is wrapped in stone

And you’re deaf to all my cries.

You don’t deserve my sacrifice

For in a grave you’ve made your bed

You were dead the day you were born

And life itself had bled.

You don’t deserve my existence

Like the one you crucified

He tried to give you everlasting life

And you believed he had lied.
