The Web

He crawled all the way

From a remote nondescript hole

In the ground.

He looked

At the shimmering eel-like wall

And then

At the skyline

Where it met the sprawling expanse

Of the snow-white ceiling

Ah! What a prospect!

What a challenge!

What a life up there!

What a life down here!

His clumsy legs

Itching to scale the heights

His weary eyes

Watering at so bright a site.

He fell up

He climbed down

He fell up

He climbed down

He fell up…

At the summit

At last

He stood imprisoned

In the web

Of his making

Knowing not where

He had gone wrong.
