The
Sin Of Icarus
Just
as a moth flies around the light,
I was drawn fatally to your glow;
My instinct and logic insistently warned,
But, to reason my heart would not bow.
Being smitten has no rhyme or reason,
I was under your magical spell.
Was it so very wrong to fall in love with you
Though you belonged to someone else?
My heart yearned for a place in the sun,
I was reconciled to your caprice.
But, the more you played hard to get,
My longing for you only increased.
I embraced gladly hell and damnation
The societal scorn I was ready to face
But, when you finally turned your back on me
My joys vanished without a trace.
Did I dare to fly too near the sun
And naively thought there was a future for us?
Burnt and broken I fell from the heavens
Alas, like the hapless Icarus.
