The Disappearance Of Saraswati
When
Saraswati
Tumbled
down the cool 'shishir' of
the
mighty Himalayas
And
danced 'apsara' - like upon
Its
strong and sportive shoulders
And
then in the thrill of wild abandon
Leapt
on the plains
Singing
the song of Creation.
Every
bank that came its way
Bowed
to the music of its waves
Riding
high on its heaving breasts
It
bathed in the Bliss of the Ocean
Where
it sank its ego-head
In
the downy pillow of Eternal Rest.
Saraswati
sang
And
with it sang many a 'rishi' entranced
Of
Truth Life Beauty and Consciousness.
A
sacrilege changed it all.
The
banks grew impetuous
And
in their blunderous vital striving
They
dared to bare their ego-head
And
fool-like strove to hem her in.
Saraswati
The
celestial river
Born
to suckle the infant spirit
On
the high road of Conscience
Bemoaned this Fall.
And
heaving a last sigh in
It
plunged deep into 'tamasic' Earth
Far away from human catcalls.
