IF

The one word in the English lang.
That keeps a dream from turning true
Is IF, it’s based on dashed desires
Yet, helps us build our hopes anew.

IF the roses did not have
Thorny shields around it grow
Would the petals be as soft ?
Would it smell as it does now ?

IF the river rambled on
Did not stop for ocean or sea
Where ‘n the world would the sun set ?
Where would we see it ? You and Me !

IF one day, did time stand still
You and I would never know
What it is to ‘spend’ the days
Through the years seeing love grow ….

Just think ! For a moment now
IF we could go back in time
We may have been man and wife
But you wouldn’t be reading this rhyme !
