THE ABANDONED POND
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I feel empty, so drained,
Devoid of all sensation,
Burdened and heavy,
Flotsam, drifting in an ocean,
Like a vacant vessel, I stand,
Weightless and hollow,
Waiting to be inundated,
With one more melody of sorrow,
Another song from my creator,
I am, but a muted cry in the shallows,
My music is now barren,
Wafting tuneless, thin and fallow,
Where the river passed flowing
Once by, over rocks to the sea,
And left me, this dislocated body
Of water, paused and still to be,
In an empty basin, filled and forgotten,
And here, I stay, calm and stagnant,
With anticipation turned to slime,
Yet with lotus bloom made fragrant,
As solitary drops of rain make indents,
Falling on my mirrored surface,
From a thunderous and belligerent sky,
And I remain, still, bereft of emotion,
Looking up at its anger, with misted eye.
