You

You are always in and around me
whether physically present or not
As an enveloping presence
or a feeling or a thought

You are the fragrance of memories
and the dull ache of longing;
the anticipations for tomorrow,
the warm glow of belonging.

The thrill in life is you.
The throb of excitement too.
You tune my highs and lows
and make my awareness grow

You are there 
in my heartbeats that race,
and in the irrepressible
smile on my face;

in the hollow emptiness
when out of reach,
in the ensuing dejection 
and the despondent speech.

All the shades of all my moods,
all the joys and all the blues
and all the thoughts in between too
are a reflection in me, of you

The twinkle in my eyes
is because of you.
The mischief at play -
that's you too.

I have come to life
because you are around
You are the reason
for the joys that abound

You are not a passing fancy
temporary and fleeing.
You are in every grain
Of my very being
