WHEN LOVE SAID NO

Twelve long stemmed red roses,
A card attached with bows.
A heart shaped candy box,
A gift that plainly shows,
The many times he treated her wrong,
The many times he swore,
That in the coming year ahead,
He would hurt her no more.
To mend his easy loving ways,
Come back home to her,
Be together this valentine,
Same as they were before.
Again, valentine comes around.
Again, the big false show,
Of candy hearts and flowers,
To make her stay, not go.
He’s not coming home tonight.
She sighs, pulls down her case,
Into it she packs her meagre clothes,
Mind numb, moving in a daze.
She’s tired now she knows the truth,
She knows this is the end,
The smile is there, her eyes are sad
She’s loosing her best friend.
The gold band around her finger,
Been there for just a year,
Now she slips it off and
Wipes a tiny tear,
“Good bye my valentine,” she says,
“I loved you true I did,
But you’re easy loving ways,
Have me lovingly rid.”
One last glance, around the room,
Her gaze rests on the floor,
On it lays a dry red rose,
And she shuts the door.
