WHEEL OF FORTUNE
I have to laugh,
I have to smile,
Make light-hearted,
Jokes all the while,
To stifle the screams,
In my mind,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
I have to pretend,
Nothing’s the matter,
That it’s all okay,
That I don’t care,
Sing a bit louder,
Dance a bit longer,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
Have to talk normally,
Look the same each day,
Hide behind a mask,
To keep prying eyes away,
Not shown any sign
Of strain,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
I have to be a little bit
Stronger,
A little more casual,
A little more natural,
Try not to fall apart,
To play my part,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
I must not think,
Not long or want,
Not feel or give in
To need,
I must not speak,
Not beg and plead,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
I must not listen
To my heart,
Not disregard reasons
Guard,
Not give in to words
That sway,
For just so long,
As I am alone,
And then, the pain
Begins.
The pain is there
To tell me how,
We went so wrong,
From what it was,
To what has become,
From the start,
To the end,
And now we live apart.
