The War Rages

Surges spring forth from areas deep inside
     The battle rages within
     Each feeling desiring to win
And each feeling comes and goes like the tide.

The decision must now rest with my conscience
     Turmoil runs rampant at times
Leaving few ways out, I find
To ignore what is right, is to abandon common sense.

We say our happiness should come at any cost
Today is what we should live for
Tomorrow who knows what's in store
If we weaken now, our moment will be forever lost.

The war that rages dwells in my heart and my mind,
My heart, which God gave me to love
My mind, to think on those things above
Ah, therein lies the conflict: which one will truly bind?

Alas, the answer I wait for comes not easily to me
Tossing and turning in sleep is my fate
Praying the answer comes before too late
And then to accept this, the answer I feel it to be.
