"True" Friends

Have you ever noticed how some 'friends' can be?
When things are great, they are always there;
But how about when things go wrong? Tell me...
How many stay around, your burden to bear?

Do they encourage you , tell you it'll be ok?
Or do they say, 'nice to know you' and turn away?
Then, there is the other kind..willing to stay-
Available to talk and listen.....night or day.

These are the measurements that should be taken
In finding a friend that will always remain true;
For anyone can be a 'friend' in name only..
One closer than a brother..not so easy to do!

If you are fortunate to have a friend such as this,
And I can say I have found a few....yes indeed;
Let them know how much you care for them. Be
There for them also...in their time of need.

I can say that during my lifetime there are many
That have been dear friends, present and past;
I know that even tho death may have separated us,
The memories made in my heart will always last.

So, friend, be sure to place your trust in those
Who will always have your best interest in mind;
And no greater friend than that, I can safely say,
On this earth and beyond..you will never find.
