THE REMAINDER

I used to
walk back home
from this road
a long time ago
and usually
you would be standing
in the balcony ;
waiting
in the twilight
of the evening.

On other fiery, orange evenings
you would be laughing
as I would break in a run
to save the ice-creams from melting in the sun.

Even today,
the ice-cream vendor is there
but does not remember
his old-time customer.
The balcony is there too
but you ;
as you were,
do not belong there.

And so,
this road
can no longer
take me anywhere.

The remainder
is only a slender remembrance
of you ;
waiting
and laughing
in the fiery twilight
of the evening.
