The Child Within

Who says life is forever,
These words, from fingertips?
Tomorrow is not the future,
Just, a smile on today's lips.

Who says they've never hurt,
Or felt rejections shrug,
Never touched bubbling laughter,
Or experienced a warm, tight hug.

Its sad that people alive,
In airless coffins live,
What ever happened to caring?
To receiving and to give

Who says I am an island?
With no harbor to land,
A lighthouse shows the seaway,
And the extended hand.

Who has the key to open?
The cave of Aladdin,
A storehouse of treasures,
No one has ever seen.

Did you find a broken ship?
Abandoned on a shore,
A maiden and a seashell,
She in her hair once wore.

Why is the king not calling?
His queen has so long gone,
The knave of hearts is singing,
In the castle all alone.

Who says fairytales aren't true,
These are but children's tales,
The child that lives within us,
Believes and is not frail.

Consider for a moment,
The child that is your being,
See the wonder through its eyes,
For the first time truly seeing.
