Romeo

Another thrilling chase has begun
As the Roam-eo starts a fresh game;
A new prey has been sited -
First step is to set her heart aflame.

He goes at her with his practiced ease
His smooth talking skills come into play;
Winning love is easier these days
No duels to fight or dragons to slay.

Playing on her sympathy-
sad tales are reeled out;
Her trusting heart melts
and she tenderly reaches out.

Another weapon is flattering words
Her every aspect he pretends to adore;
To hear him talk, one would think
Without her he would be at death's door.

He says his love is for eternity
But may last for months - three or four.
He has no plans for commitments
His one foot is always in the door.

Women yearn for affection and stability
and believe his words of undying love.
Soon he wins her trusting heart
with his half promises and hinted at vows.

These are such age old techniques
which he has polished & perfected with use.
They bring such sadness in the end
that the triteness fails to amuse.

Soon he gets the notch on his headboard
and adds another feather to his cap;
Once in a way he is found out
But he is quite immune to a slap.

What he has done is preyed on someone
who was naive, humane and lonely
But somehow he seems to equate it to
being macho, clever and manly.

Another heart, won (and broken)
But he isn't satisfied, he cannot stay;
Another port of call awaits
and he is already on his way.

Though he thinks he is the victor
there is something he doesn't see;
His battle is never over
He hasn't vanquished his enemy.

Like all the victims he has conquered
with his ruthless play,
He is just as lonely in his empty house
at the end of the day.
