Regret

We wander hurriedly, through life,
Chasing happiness in the wrong places;
Life happens to us, meanwhile,
Putting us through its paces.

When love lays Heaven at our feet
Time seems to pass by in the blink of an eye;
We don't realize or pay much heed
But rush on, still searching, at top speed.

In the evening years of our life
This understanding slowly dawns -
When our pace is slacker, giving us time
To think back between our aches and yawns -

that we've had our chance at perfect bliss
And long for those times to return tomorrow;
And, memories of never - to - return happiness
Is sorrow's crowning sorrow.
