MICROCOSMIC CHOREOGRAPHY
Electrons whirling round atomic nuclei
if observed behave all camera-shy--
a fact which Heisenberg once found
in his research.
Like modest ladies at a private dance
their movements are extremely coy,
so careful in decorum,
demure in their deep mysteries.
However close you watch their steps,
the next ones may be only guessed,
but not predicted-
well, not precisely anyway:
the choreography is patterned thus.
These dancing ladies keep appearances,
permitting us to view them part-revealed;
their perfect nakedness remains unshown,
always inviolate.
Uncertainty decrees them quantum-veiled,
deciding on their predicate:
just when and where they are cannot be known,
is never intimate.
We fail to pin the microcosm down.
