I Cannot Give
I cannot give the things I wish to you,
No touch of lips or fingers on your skin,
No passion in my eyes before your view
So you might know the love I feel within.
With tenderness of voice I cannot tell,
Nor give the flavor or the scent of me,
Nothing that you can feel, taste, hear or smell
And not the things I hope for you to see.
The only gift at present I can give
That you might sense the love that fills my heart
And grows, each breath I take, each day I live,
Is simple words, expressed in poet’s art.
I write for you, hoping your heart to touch
With words that show I love you very much.
